Michael Kors – Fall 2011 RTW

Full of luxury and a touch of shimmer, Michael Kors does what he does best – classic solids with dramatically deep cuts and high slits. With the celebration of his 30th anniversary in the fashion business, his inspiration was just that – 30 Years of American Luxury.  Monochromatic designs, silver collar chokers and platinum platform sandals were the accessories of choice paired with jumpsuits, fur coats, and dramatic draping. Have a look.

Michael Kors – Spring 2011 - RTW

Michael Kors’ Spring 2011 Ready to Wear collection combined the simple, with slight embellishment, as well as a few pops of jewel tone colors.  Oversized in their proportions, the pairing of a simple white collared top with a gorgeous emerald green textured skirt exudes a carefree, yet slightly devil-may-care attitude.  Some of the pieces reminded me of what I might want to wear while enjoying an evening in, yet still wanting to feel as though I am in the laps of luxury.  Have a look at a few pieces I have pulled that caught my eye and if you’d like to to view the entire collection, click here.  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Stylish Fall Wares

W Magazine takes its readers through a flamboyant display of feathers, wool, cashmere, chiffon, silk and fur as an introduction to the 2010 fall fashions.  Photographed by Craig McDean and styled by Alex White, below are a few of my favorite ensembles.

Prepping for Spring

Here in the northwest, the weather is beginning to truly resemble what we have all been longing for – warmer temperatures, calm days and perpetual sunshine coaxing us to come outside and enjoy.  With this much appreciated change, is the need to change what is worn.

So with the help of Instyle, I’ve gathered some necessary items that will no doubt touch up your wardrobe and have you prepared for almost any occasion.

A Fresh Scent

If you are running low on your favorite fragrance, as I am right now, why not think about a new fresh, and as Jennifer Aniston states herself “sexy and clean” and “floral, but not too flowery” scent? Her new perfume, Lolavie, will be released in June, however, in Harrods in England first (a release in the states hasn’t been announced yet). As far as where the name originated from, “It’s a long story and honestly it’s too personal to tell,” she said. “But it has special significance.” And the mystery will continue evidentially. In the meantime, if you’re in the mood for a change, why not stray a bit from a classic, but not too far, and try Chanel’s No 19?

Pick Up A Trench

Whether you are prone to more neutral tones or would like a pop of color, make sure you have a trench coat at the ready.  Be rest assured, with one in your closet you will always be able to get from point A to point B in style.

Nautical Striped Top

Navy and white stripe tops are something so timeless and classic, and can be adapted and used in a variety of styles for the top you desire.  A look typically used for casual dress, but nonetheless, a very finished look.

A Bright Blazer

It is spring after all, so add some color to your neutral wardrobe, by adding a splash of color in the form of a blazer. Miranda Kerr demonstrates it quite well I think.

A Khaki Dress

Elie Tahari’s ad campaign demonstrates that a simple khaki dress can be worn for a rather dressed up affair, but it’s nice to know it can be paired with flats for a casual stroll through a farmer’s market as well.

Sequins!

I am a huge fan of sequins, as I mentioned in a previous post, so this will be an easy sell for me.  However, don’t be fooled into thinking sequins are only for the cocktail hour.  Pair them with your professional or day to day wardrobe as well, and while you will most certainly get noticed, have no doubt that it will be for all of the right reasons.

Accessories

-Boho Clutch

A simple and quick way to spruce up your wardrobe is to change your accessories.  In these two instances, carry a different clutch or bag.  Above, Designer Genevieve Jones’ boho clutch and below, Louis Vuitton’s doctor bag.

-Doctor’s Bag

Sunglasses

Last on today’s Saturday Style list, but oh, so very important, is the multi-purpose accessory - always a fantastic purchase.  Since we all will have the opportunity to bask in the sun more often now, make sure you’re not only protecting your baby blues (or browns or greens or hazels) but are making a classic statement with the choice of your sunglasses.  I am currently craving a pair of Michael Kors. Kate Beckinsale demonstrates how lovely Michael Kors - 586 Corsicas can look.

Never Too Early

My fall shopping list has begun!  An overall theme seemed to emerge during New York’s Fashion Week, and it was wholeheartedly appreciated by someone (me) who wants to be fashionable, yet is sometimes perplexed by what is worn on the runways.  This season did not have that problem what so ever!  Femininity is still going strong, and I adore this trend – skinny belts and sheath dresses (Victoria Beckham).  Grays, browns, with shades of pinks, reds and oranges showed off their allure, and, I was uber-thrilled by this one, scarves!  Ginormous scarves appear to be something to look for in the fall.  I couldn’t be happier.
So, prompted by a suggestion from Harper’s Bazaar, I decided to make a visual wish list of what my fall closet might look like (that is if I had a magic genie in a bottle, but I looked and she’s not in there gosh darn it!). Regardless, I’ve included my favorites from this past Fashion Week.

Out of curiosity, what were some of the trends that piqued your interest and how are you most likely to incorporate them into your wardrobe?  Hope you are just about to embark on a fantastic weekend romp, whatever it may be, and if it’s shopping maybe this will rev your engine up even more!  Cheers!

Love the layering Tory Burch has done and especially like the capped sleeved coat.  Always keep in mind, sequins are not just for an evening out ladies!

A consistent trend in
Diane von Furstenberg’s Fall 2010 line were skirts or cocktail length dresses worn with a sweater-like cardigan or jacket.  I love this idea to dress down a rather fancy dress or to add texture.

Michael Kors’ mix of neutrals, gray, brown and khaki, work well together and, as always, the belt pulls it all into something fabulous and draws your eye in to a beautiful narrow waist.

I had to include one more of
Michael Kors’ collection.  This simple black dress, the V-neck and again, loving the belt!  Classy monochromatic outfit that screams simplicity, yet drama at the same time.

Elie Tahari is one of the many designers I, admittedly, just found out about, but at least I did because I thoroughly saw myself feeling comfortable, yet put together in many of his designs.  The sweater cardigan layered underneath the coat, all wrapped up in a belt is stunning. And the camisole peeking out from underneath, that is definitely something I would feel comfortable wearing.

ADAM by Adam Lippes displayed he could design with an upper class flair.  There were a handful of items I liked in his collection and one among them was this sweater dress cinched in with a simple large black belt.

Victoria Beckham, I believed, stunned quite a few with her collection.  All I can say is that femininity seemed to be the utmost priority when these designs were crafted.  The dresses were fitted, yet not too revealing, reminding us all of what makes a woman’s figure sexy.

Jason Wu’s collection was absolutely fabulous, but I couldn’t help but show one of the many photos of the oversized scarves that seemed to be just about everywhere.  I, personally, am a huge fan as everyone already knows.

I am in need of more winter coats, and the neckline of
Elie Tahari’s black wool piece immediately caught my attention. Beautiful.

Now, I must update my wardrobe for evenings out, and while simple,
Lela Rose’s cocktail dress in navy would fit right in with my tastes.

For a splash of color
Tory Burch incorporates sequins again while also adding the ever popular accessory – the belt.  Creative and something I need to try.

And I couldn’t end without including another item from
Jason Wu’s 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection.  A woman’s shoulders, after all, are always sexy, so why not show them off this a halter dress that will be the talk of the evening for all the right reasons.
