Anne Hathaway - Vogue US December 2012

 

Birthday girl Anne Hathaway is for the third time the porcelain beauty on the cover of Vogue (November 12, 2012). The December 2012 issue is set to hit newsstands in a week as Hathaway begins the media blitz for Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables (set to be released on Christmas in the states) in which she plays the tragic prostitute Fantine. A physically and emotionally taxing role (she dropped 25 pounds and chopped her hair for the part), she is gaining her sea legs again after having just exchanged vows with her partner since 2008 jewelry designer Adam Shulman on September 29th, and entertaining television audiences this past Saturday night on Saturday Night Live (the opening bit with the cast singing “One Day More” was fantastic, and her impression of Katie Holmes – a dead ringer).

Annie Leibovitz captured Hathaway for the cover and editorial which was styled by Tonne Goodman, and it is in these pages of Vogue that the official photos of her custom designed Valentino wedding gown are revealed. Be sure to read the interview here.

Vogue US September 2012

One of my most favorite things about summer coming to an end is the enormous bookstop-esque September fashion issues arriving from the mailperson. Anna Wintour’s September Vogue issue arrived digitally a week ago, but I still thoroughly looked forward to sitting down with a cup (or glass – depending upon the time of day) of something decadent and taking my time reading the articles that catch my interest.

In this particular issue there were four articles that I thoroughly enjoyed for differing reasons:

• “Waiting in the Wings” (p828) Jonathan Van Meter’s interview with Chelsea Clinton – an intriguing insight into a young woman (32) who defies exhaustion and is resolute to uphold the Clinton legacy, at the same time making it her own.
• “The Sense of an Ending” (p440) Ann Pachett’s touching piece about the loss of her 16 year old dog Rosie. Dog-lovers, as hard it as it will initially be to read this article (I teared up within the first two paragraphs), it is a lovely dedication to the special, irreplaceable spot our four-legged loyal companions hold in our lives.
• “All that Jazz” (p648) Vogue officially confirmed that Miuccia Prada is the fashion extraordinaire behind the wardrobe of the upcoming film The Great Gatsby starring Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire which opens on Christmas Day at the end of the year.
• “French Open” (p860) Plum Sykes takes a grand peek into Lauren Santo Domingo’s new Paris apartment located in the heart of Saint Germain. If you are both a Francophile and a decor aficionado, you will fawn over the story and the beauty of this lovely pied a terre. As co-founder of the online trunkshow website Moda Operandi, Santo Domingo is a devoted lover of Paris, and with the help of interior designer Francois Catrous restored their apartment into one that combines both bohemian and grandeur. Lady Gaga wears a custom gown by Marc Jacobs (chosen from one of two that he made exclusively for her cover shoot) and was styled by Grace Coddington. In promotion for her perfume Fame, Gaga is depicted edgy, yet originally glamorously grungy, yet at the same time regal with the inclusion of the adorning hats. Read Jonathan Van Meter’s entire interview here. In the most recent issue of Vogue US (August 2012), their age issue included some inspiring stories of many different women. One in particular caught my attention, as it was an interview of former high school English teacher and author Bel Kaufman who is now 101 years old. Her savvy, sharp wit and intellectual observations were impressive, and while the link above doesn’t take you to the interview (it is not available online yet), it does take you to a recap of it. So be sure to pick up this month’s Vogue to read a worthwhile article. (page 78)

Many of you have written to me asking about advice on a variety of aspects about blogging. Well, have I found the book for any aspiring blogger! If you haven’t already read it, you most certainly should. Yuli Ziv shares in great detail all of the secrets and insights on how to make your business as a blog work and work well. Not in any way superficial, it becomes clear that she wants to help her readers. With advice on creating the foundational structure of your blog (template, logo, mission statement), to creating a media kit and communicating with PR companies, you will not be disappointed.

 

Emma Stone – Vogue US July 2012

I must admit right up front, I’m a fan of Emma Stone. Okay, a huge fan. Her fashion gumption, her ability to look fabulous in brunette and platinum blonde in a blink of an eye, and, well, she was cast as a character in Crazy, Stupid, Love that sealed the deal.

Draped in Nina Ricci Fall 2012 wares on the cover as she promotes her new upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man (premiering July 3rd), Mario Testino captures Emma's unique, innocent, but at the same time mysteriously intriguing beauty for the July 2012 issue of Vogue US. 

As a spokeswoman for Revlon, the nod from Anna Wintour is certainly a step up in the right direction for the 23-year old. Interviewed by Nathan Heller, pick up the issue on newsstands this week, and see all of the photos below:

Imitation Is The Greatest Form of Flattery

New York Fashion Week is in full swing and while fashion editors, stylists, writers and photographers take their seats, Anna Wintour (the editor of Vogue US since 1988) will be photographed almost as much as the designs themselves. In a Vogue Paris 2007 issue, the editorial below was created titled L’Icône, and the model with her classic bob, black sunglasses, and classically strung necklace imitates Anna’s iconic style quite well.

So while the models strut and stare, she sits, analyzes and deciphers what we will see in the future season. Imitation really is a great form of flattery.

Angelina Jolie – Cover Vogue US – December 2010

Angelina Jolie takes the cover of Vogue US’s December issue as her new film with Johnny Depp, The Tourist,  hits theaters December 10th. Photographed by Mario Testino, she continues to remind us of her photogenic abilities in a suit short set, corsets and gowns. The December issue is scheduled to hit newsstands November 23rd.

Upon seeing just a peek at the November issue of Vogue US, I was smitten. Photographed by Mario Testino, Anne Hathaway looks absolutely gorgeous. Beginning her rendezvous with the press for her new film Love and Other Drugs who she co-stars with Jake Gyllenhaal, set to release November 24th, Anne Hathaway will have me anxiously waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail. Feminine Sophistication

The long, lean silhouettes of the thirties were evident in the recent resort collections displayed this early summer, and what would be better than for models Caroline Trentini, Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, to remind us of the beauty and sophistication these designs can exude. Found in the pages of October’s issue of Vogue US, the floor length body skimming gowns, classic sequin monochromatic sparkle, expertly hung trouser pants and head-hugging caps are quite appealing.  What do you think?

Carey Mulligan – Vogue US – October 2010

One film that I am quite intrigued by and anxious to go see due to the ensemble cast (Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Frank Langella, and October’s Vogue cover girl Carey Mulligan), economic and headline timeliness and buzz at the Cannes Film Festival is Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (premiering September 24 in the states). Now prior to watching it, I have vowed to myself that I will watch the prequel starring Douglas Wall Street, but I must say the casting of Carey Mulligan, who was impressive in the An Education, caught my attention immediately.

So upon learning a few months ago that she would be the cover girl of the upcoming October Vogue US I was again curious to see what the photos would look like. Needless to say, with the creative eye of photographer Peter Lindbergh and fashion editor Grace Coddington, it is sophisticated, yet playful, stylish, yet flirty. Wearing a Chanel Haute Couture dress from their 2010 Fall collection on the cover, Mulligan reminds readers again why she is such a unique beauty.
