Up on a Rooftop - Drew & Cameron

Two of my favorite fashion magazines shared previews of their August covers, and I have to say I look forward to reading them both.  Now all we need is a third magazine with Lucy Liu on the cover and Charlie’s Angels will have reunited via fashion.  Okay, so it’s a stretch.

Drew Barrymore poses on a rooftop with a body-hugging black strapless sequin design for photographer Carter Smith in Elle’s upcoming issue, while Cameron Diaz is Harper’s Bazaar’s chosen lady also appearing upon a rooftop of sorts photographed by Terry Richardson.  Both look fantastic at ages 35 and 37 respectively.

Clearly both women have figured out how to navigate successfully in the world of Hollywood – Drew both in front of and behind the cameras and Cameron being one of the leading ladies in the business.  When asked if fame can change someone, Cameron stated, “. . . I believe that fame makes you become who you are more clearly,” and if that is indeed the case, it appears Cameron Diaz is quite comfortable with who she seems to be – carefree with a devilish sense of humor.

Harper’s Bazaar’s August cover girl goes on to talk about her staying power and her upcoming movie with Justin Timberlake Bad Teacher. Read the entire article written by Laura Brown by simply clicking here. The Harper’s Bazaar issue hits newsstands July 20th and Elle’s July 14th.

Rules of Style – Cameron Diaz

After having Rachel Zoe as her stylist, Cameron Diaz has learned a thing or two about creating her own style as well.  With the help of Instyle and Miss Zoe, Cameron shares her secrets and I share a few of my own as well.

Regardless of the Label, Make Sure it Fits Your Body

Cameron was at the top of everyone’s hit list with this Chanel custom gown worn at the 2009 Golden Globes.  If you watched the first season of The Rachel Zoe Project, you might remember they chopped off the sleeve and specifically made it a design that would flatter Diaz’s lanky frame.

Case in point, even if the gown is made by one of the most respected design houses in the world, if it doesn’t fit your body, you won’t knock it out of the park.  Tailoring, tailoring, tailoring.

Another example of wearing what flatters what your mother gave you is this pale pink strapless bustier Dior dress designed by John Galliano that she wore to the 2008 Oscars.

Leave Them Guessing

At the 2007 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Gala, Cameron paired turquoise jewelry with a magenta Christian Dior strapless gown which at first might have you shaking your head, but due to the simplicity and the accessory’s ability to allow the dress’s hue to pop, they complemented each other wonderfully.  The lesson? Don’t always play by “the rules”.

Consider the Event

Cameron would much rather be wearing jeans, as we can see from the countless photos on the web, but when an occasion calls for a touch of femininity or formality, she always delivers. A perfect example was in June of 2009 when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A few other others I would add to the list that Cameron seems to follow without fail:

Wear the Necessary Undergarments

With her beautiful svelte figure, the ability for her to wear just about any fashion under the sun, also requires some creative undergarments to be worn in order for the dresses to work their magic. Whether it is a strapless cocktail dress, a one shoulder design, a white or slimming gown, the proper undergarments make every bit of difference.

Less is More

When it comes to accessories, less truly is more.  Choose either earrings or a necklace, but typically not both, especially if they are statement pieces by themselves.  With her classic, girl-next-door-quality, Cameron looks much more comfortable when her smile and one flashy item is her accessory of choice for the night.

Always Don the Two Best Accessories

While shopping for the perfect accessories for each stunning outfit can take some time, the best accessories for any outfit whether it be casual or formal are clear, radiant skin and appropriately styled hair. Whether she is wearing it short, long, brunette or blonde, Diaz shines due to her stylist and make-up artist’s fabulous job.

Consider the Trend, But Always Choose Your Style

After looking around the web for quite some time, it became clear that for traveling and general “running around town” Cameron is all about the skinny jeans, oversized tote, scarf and eye-catching flats.  And the key to this recipe is that she looks fabulous in each combination.  It is clear she knows her body, thus she knows her style. So while baby-doll tops may be all the rage for a particular season, if it doesn’t flatter your beauty, leave it on the rack.

So what do you think?  Are there any style rules you would add to the list?  I would love to hear.

Cameron Diaz - Vogue UK – July 2010

The casual, carefree beauty Cameron Diaz shines on the Vogue UK cover for the July issue.  As the promotions parade begins for her upcoming movie with Tom Cruise, Knight and Day, the  37-year-old actress has a candid conversation about aging.  She reveals her secrets for continuing to look radiant (her responses are on listed one of the images below),  her thoughts on a satisfied life, working with her ex Justin Timberlake and handling the pressure of aging in Hollywood.  Without question, Diaz proves that vitality and beauty involve laughter, not taking yourself too seriously and following your own path.  Regan Cameron captures her relaxed summer style quiet well, I think.  Have a look for yourself and read more of the article by clicking here.

Casual State of Mind

I’ve hit mid-week and I’m ready for some serenity, a lessening of the frantic pace.  So many places to find it, but often times, for me, it starts with the outfit I don for the duration of the day.  And while I must dress in my professional attire today, I am going to imagine I am wearing one of the outfits below, courtesy of the beautiful-in-anything Cameron Diaz.

The Perfect PJ’s

Waking up on a Saturday morning, knowing that you have time on your hands, if not for just a few hours, is heaven on earth.  Add to that this Versailles upholstered headboard from The French Bedroom, croissants, jam and french pressed coffee . . . and if there is a place better than heaven, you would have found it, at least for me.

As I have been waking up lately, I have been realizing that I am in need of a cozy set of pajamas, and so I started wracking my brain thinking of what type of pj’s I desired . . . and then I remembered.

Ever since I sat down to enjoy The Holiday starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslett (which was quite some time ago, I must admit, but gosh darnit I love that movie.  Anything Nancy Meyers puts her hands on is simply fun to look at) I’ve been curious and covetous of the pajamas that Cameron wears in one of the first major scenes of the film.  I have been hooked ever since and have vowed this year for my birthday I would find, and deliver to myself, these pajamas.  Currently, I am embarrassed to say that my pajamas are old.

Yes, they may be Christian Dior, but I have a feeling they are low-end Christian Dior and quite frankly, I feel I deserve one nice set of pajamas.  After all, I spend every night (at least in the chillier months) in pajamas, or when I’m visiting someone with whom I want to feel comfortable around, yet still feminine and appropriate.  The good news is I think I have found them, but I wanted to ask you, my readers, if you knew of other pajamas that you have fallen in love with and would recommend, or if any of you have purchased the Frette Rigato Ara striped pajamas (worn by Cameron Diaz in the movie) and would recommend them.

I am striving to find something feminine, full coverage for sitting out in the morning with family, friends over coffee before getting the day started sort of thing.  I love the look of these, I just hope they correlate to fabulous when I wear them.  Who knows?  Below are pictures from The Holiday of Diaz in the pajamas.  I apologize for the lack of clarity.
