Zac Posen – Spring 2013 RTW

Sunday evening in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Zac Posen’s Spring 2013 was one of glamour, beauty and absolute sophistication. Reminding us again why he is undoubtedly deserving of being a top red carpet choice, his dress, suits and multiple gowns dazzled. Booking the stars of the new show The Face, Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha, it may seem at first it was a walking advertisement for the production company, but it was more likely he was sticking to what he believes is an effective marketing decision. Posen has stated he isn’t interested in finding a new face for each season, but would rather have a girl that is a brand all her own [referring to Coco in a recent NY Times article].

Regardless of his loyalty and appreciation of his models, he’s skills in design were quite apparent with seemingly endless floor-sweeping gowns, feminine necklines, sculpted waists and fabrics of organza, silk, tulle and chiffon masterfully crafted into works of couture art. Have a look.

St. John – Spring 2013 RTW

St. John’s 2013 Spring collection remained simple, yet brimming with quality classic designs for chic work style or an evening on the town. The rainbow of colors – red, yellow, black, pink, navy and turquoise were gathered at the waist with a medium chic black belt which cinched the entire collection together as only a few select pieces weren't belted. Expertly tailored yet colorful for spring, and all classic for year-after-year use, St. John stretched just enough to change from previous seasons, but wisely stayed with what they do well – classic real woman designs.

Behnaz Sarafpour – Spring 2013 RTW

Friday afternoon inside the Jane Ballroom in New York City, designer Behnaz Sarafpour shared her Spring 2013 presentation. With beautiful brocade sleeveless suit jackets and pants, peplum skirts, intricate eyelet dresses and impressive floral embellishments on a neutral palette of black, white, muted gold and a subtle touch of lemongrass, the collection was innocently feminine, yet with creatively original touches. The warm, regal setting accurately spotlighted a collection that seemed to pay homage to a more polite past.

Jason Wu – Spring 2013 RTW

Jason Wu shared with the press that his inspiration for his Spring 2013 RTW collection came from an unlikely pairing of photographers – Helmut Newton and Lillian Basman. With two stark contrasts present throughout the show mixing femininity, which is has become well-known for when he debuted his first collection in 2006, and straight-forward leather inclusions with angular darts and expertly tailored waists and bodices, Wu demonstrated that he has a darker, mysterious ability adding a bit of naughty to his often prim collections. With blouses buttoning at the neck followed by leather belts, pants and dresses, he certainly played with the opposing ideas quite well. High-waisted match-stick cropped pants continued to be prevalent, and as my Editor-in-Chief, Melissa Middleton, shared, the hair styles were exquisitely coiffed and ebbed and flowed perfectly albeit held securely in place much like the fraternal ideas of his collection.
