Zac Posen – Spring 2013 RTW

Sunday evening in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Zac Posen’s Spring 2013 was one of glamour, beauty and absolute sophistication. Reminding us again why he is undoubtedly deserving of being a top red carpet choice, his dress, suits and multiple gowns dazzled. Booking the stars of the new show The Face, Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha, it may seem at first it was a walking advertisement for the production company, but it was more likely he was sticking to what he believes is an effective marketing decision. Posen has stated he isn’t interested in finding a new face for each season, but would rather have a girl that is a brand all her own [referring to Coco in a recent NY Times article].

Regardless of his loyalty and appreciation of his models, he’s skills in design were quite apparent with seemingly endless floor-sweeping gowns, feminine necklines, sculpted waists and fabrics of organza, silk, tulle and chiffon masterfully crafted into works of couture art. Have a look.

London Closing Ceremony & British Models

On my last evening in London, I made sure to find a television to view the much anticipated Olympic Closing Ceremony (tickets were impossible to find and if found, required the amount of a down payment on a small cottage). Rumors of quite the gathering of British talent – musicians, designers and models were swirling, but it wasn’t until I picked up a copy of British’s September issue of Vogue and began reading it as I moseyed about my business on the tube that I was certain about the fashion component appearing in the ceremonies.

Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue Alexandra Shulman and Fashion Director Lucinda Chambers were tapped by Kim Gavin, Creative Director of The Closing Ceremony and his team, to work with The British Fashion Council to bring the talents of the British runway to the stage for the world to see. Within the pages of one of their largest issues (September 2012), photographer Nick Knight captured top British models, beginning with Kate Moss, followed by Naomi Campbell, Georgia May Jagger, Stella Tennant, Lily Cole, Lily Donaldson, David Gandy, Karen Elson, and Jourdan Dunn, to showcase the exquisite talents of some of the top fashion designers from Britain.

What made me giddy is that while I was watching the ceremony, I could list verbatim the designer behind each of the gowns as all models wore the exact same dress on the catwalk as they did in the pages of Vogue’s September issue.

With Kate Moss and Karen Elson’s gowns topping my list, I was surprised to see Stella McCartney not represented. Regardless, it was thrilling to see fashion placed on a such a magnificent stage whether the entire crowd realized or not what they were witnessing. It certainly reveals a bit of the power and influence fashion can have if handled well.

Elle UK – October 2010 – 25th Anniversary

As a way of celebrating their 25th anniversary, Elle UK created four limited edition covers for their October 2010 issue. You will find Kate Hudson on the newsstand edition and Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, John Galliano and Helena Christensen on the four exclusive covers. Have a look below and see which cover you’d prefer. I couldn’t help but be impressed with Helena Christensen yet again, but one thing I do love about each of the covers is that they exude their own individualism and that is why they stand out.

2010 Met Gala Red Carpet

Graceful long dresses stole the show on the red carpet for the 2010 Metropolitian Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala themed "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity". To learn more of the many details this event focused on click here. 

Personally, I was very impressed with the choices displayed – simple lines, clean sleek gowns, with many women choosing to sweep their hair off of their face.  Absolute elegance was the look of choice as you will see from the images I gathered as some of my favorites.

Two ladies that were a treat to follow on Twitter tonight with regards to the Gala were Tory Burch and Rachel Zoe.

Now this is an event that I would gladly choose to attend, if ever I was invited, before attending the Academy Awards – New York City, Fashion the focus and a themed event – so much fun indeed.
