Chanel Haute Couture – Fall/Winter 2010/2011
Beauty and the beast, or at least it appeared as though Jean Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast" was the inspiration especially when the traditional bride at the end was accompanied by a groom wearing a lion's head over his wedding suit. The rest of the beauties in the show wore bright seductively red lips paired with a bit of tousled hair and porcelain-like skin. To add even more appeal, the models each did their catwalk around the grand statue of a golden lion with his left paw positioned territorially over an oversized pearl. When asked for the source of inspiration though, Lagerfeld told AFP he had been inspired by a small bronze lion found in Coco Chanel’s apartment. And if that weren’t enough, each of the models entered the stage from the pearl itself that opened similar to that of an oyster – a grand entrance indeed to be the jewel on that stage.
With just a drop of black, oatmeal, chestnut, hazelnut, navy and plum instead littered the stage in his new take on the Chanel suit – a bolero jacket layered on top of body slimming skirts and sleeves that hit around the elbow. Additional luxury included double-edging of the cuffs, collars and hemlines in fur, and double breasted jeweled buttons in front.
On the models’ wrists were exquisite bracelets, a co-mingling of precious stones and chains and upon their feet each model worn a version of boots which looked a bit as though they were covered in the curls of a lion’s mane.

Vogue's Grace Coddington and Anna Wintour with Vanity Fair's Michael Roberts
Giovanna Battaglia
Natalia Vodianova

Is it bad that the thing I want most is the big gold lion? I could find room!
That was interesting! Hilarious WendyB! Loved what you said.
Milla is the best with her chic grey dress and what seems to be a brooch.

Chanel? Oh LOVE. The accessories are simply the best, I go gaga over their long necklaces and bangles. Isn't Natalia V gorgeous???
Looks like it must have been an incredible show! I like all of the black pieces, typical of me!
So amazing! I've been dying to catch up on all of the couture shows I missed while on vacation. I knew they were happening but I couldn't/wouldn't allow myself to look for photos until I got back :)
