Keri Russell’s Brownstone Dream Home

In Elle Decor’s June 2011 issue, Keri Russell’s brownstone in Brooklyn, New York, that she enjoys with her husband Shane Deary, with their son, River is featured. With soft neutrals and welcoming spaces that offer comfort, elegance, and some of their own labor (Deary built the shelves in the master closet as well as the side table above), photographer William Waldron captures their very livable home.

Some of the pieces that I adore are the matching chandeliers in both the living room and dining room from Ochre, the tufted ottoman (above) from John Derian Dry Goods, as well as the linen-upholstered armchairs by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Oh, and I can’t forget the very inviting claw foot bathtub situated next to a antique armchair in the master bath– love this arrangement – as though one could be soaking while a significant other relaxes in the chair carrying an end-of-the-day conversation.

Architectural Renovation

Formerly the editor in chief of Elle Decor for 10 years (all in total 21 years at the magazine), Margaret Russell debuts her first issue as editor of Architectural Digest with the March 2011 issue. Determined to bring the once standard setting shelter magazine back to its former pedestal, Russell cleaned house deciding not to renew the plush writer’s contracts and even bringing in new staff this summer, some from Elle Decor.

With her determination to present material to a new tech-savvy reader (many efforts are in place to coordinate with iPad apps), she resolves to stay loyal to the foundation of what Architectural Digest was built upon - “showcasing the most striking architecture and sumptuous interiors”. After two long months of “renovation” on her debut issue, the magazine is ready for it’s big reveal. I look forward to picking up the copy to see exactly what she will be offering.

A Functional & Stunning Kitchen

Two stoves in a kitchen and one of which is exclusively for making paella. Now that is a personalized kitchen. Design guru for Williams-Sonoma, Celia Tejada, wanted to create her dream kitchen which she considers a living room of sorts due to all the time she spends in it. So with the help of her architect, her brother, they created for her home in San Francisco a kitchen that is a true heart of her home.  Read the article here.

Modern Luxury Meets Hollywood Glamour

With views of Madison Square Park and the Flatiron Building in Manhattan, Kiane and Charlie Von Mueffling’s apartment is quite a change from Sydney, Australia, but nothing short of luxurious glamour. An Escape To London

Located in Knightsbridge and dating back to 1880s, this home now includes ample oversized plush sofas, a modern soaker tub, carefully selected wall decor and unique and beckoning chairs throughout. Being an avid book lover, book shelves are a necessity in my life, but shelves in just about any room in the home can add character, reveal a touch of luxury and divulge a glimpse in the homeowner’s style.  Less is always more, and whatever you do decide to showcase make sure it is of either very high quality or very high personal value. I’ve gathered together shelves found in the kitchen, bathroom, office, closet and the living room to demonstrate how to incorporate this look into a variety of places.  Have a look.
