Rules of Style - Elle Macpherson

Without the help of a stylist Elle Macpherson continually looks casual chic whether she is dropping off her boys at school, attending fashion galas or being captured on the street going about her business. When asked to describe her style, “It’s basically 60’s and 70’s ‘rock and roll meets boho chic’.  I live in jeans and cowboy boots, jeans and high heels and jeans and ballet flats. Oh and my cowboy hats.”

At the age of 48  she certainly possesses the wisdom of a style maven, but looks far younger. Macpherson chooses to follow styles that complement her physique and leave the trends for everyone else to follow. And as far as her closet is concerned, it’s not what you might think. “I have a very, very, pared down wardrobe. I have jeans and cashmere sweaters and t-shirts and then shoes – heels, flats and cowboy boots.”

Let’s take a look at just how she pulls it off with simplicity and clarity when it comes to always looks stylish.

Scarves to add a touch of color or intrigue

Ballet flats for all occasions

Sunglasses (oversized or aviators)

Large turtlenecks with figure flattering jeans

Blue jeans

While she wears many different brands of jeans, she states that she gravitates primarily to J Brand and 7 For All Mankind.

A touch of leopard

Cowboy hats

An oversized watch

A bit or a bunch of red

A Flattering black dress

Be active

Nautical stripes

I quite like her style ... but she needs to stop doing stuff to her face. She doesn't look like herself.

Jeans must be the only item that are always in style. I think it was Yves St. Laurent who said he wishes he invented them. They can express any mood or point of view.
