A Haven For Creativity

As you are probably aware, I spend quite a bit of time at my home office, and I know many of you do the same thing. I am slowly in the process of creating my dream simply luxurious office space and while it isn’t done yet, the key to reaching any successful goal is to have a plan and a target of what you want to create and manifest. So with that in mind, below is a list of the basics I feel an inviting, and thus productive office work space should have.

1. A Perfectly Suitable Desk

The height, the legroom, the total counter space and necessary storage space.  All of which depends on what type of work you plan on partaking in on a regular basis.

2. Inspirational Images Above the Desk

Whether it is a collection of framed photographs, a stunning painting that you found at a second hand store or an art gallery, an idea board full of images, quotes and beauty galore, what hangs or is placed above your desk should evoke your creative juices to begin to do their magic.

3. Open Space

In order to unclutter your mind and produce what you have on your to-do list, the desk must be free of unnecessary everything. Create a filing system that work for documents/paperwork you need at your fingertips (keep it on top in a standing file, or for information you will need only when asked, for reference, taxes, etc – keep them in a file cabinet or drawer.

4. Creative Trays, Pencil Holders & Caddies

The one thing I always keep my eyes open for when I begin to frequent garage/yard sales in the spring are unique holders. Right now, my writing utensils are stored in a milk glass goblet. By adding this unique element, your desk is original and speaks to what attracts your eye, thus always making sure something beautiful is on your work space.

5. A Lamp

The best lamp is one that radiates the perfect amount of light no matter what time of day.  The fun part is choosing a lamp and shade that matches your design aesthetic. It always amazes me how so much personality exudes from just one small piece of necessary furniture.

6. Nature

Whether you choose to place a gorgeous bouquet of fresh flowers, a bamboo plant or a bud vase with a single flower picked from your garden, having mother nature at your finger tips is sure to inspire.

7. A Comfortable Chair

An absolutely must to accomplish long durations of work without becoming sore, is to purchase or find a chair that supports your back and is comfortable.

8. Book Ends To Support Necessary Works

A big desk that allows for room of a short row of books that are always needed for projects propped up by gorgeous bookends not only is needed to add organization, but also add a conversational design element. These particular book ends are on my wishlist.

Extras To Complete the Room:

*a calming color or wall paper

*A cozy sitting chair, lounge chair or settee/sofa, with possibly an ottoman.

*Warm floor coverings, whether it be a rug or carpet

*Bookshelves

And once you’re at your office space (at home or at the office), why not . . . have a luxurious work day?  By the way, what would you make sure to include in your dream office space?  I’d love to hear, as I’m always looking for more inspiring ideas.

The perfect post for me to read right now, as I'm in the process of clearing every space of my studio to organize it and make it inspiring and fresh for spring (hence the pretty tulips in the crystal vase in front of me and my pale turquoise pencils in a silver cup, a silver tray with my gold paper clips, a pretty notepad all gathered together in a black square lacquer tray!). Thanks, Shannon, for further inspiration! ;)

Oh my, those bookends are absolutely divine. They have been added to my Wish List as well. Thank you.

I love the desk in the last photo - any ideas where I might find a desk like this?
