A Grand American English Garden

On an estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, James Doyle was the master mind behind this beautiful English space that was created in 1926.  Known as Old Mill Farm, Doyle had his hands full, however, upon being hired as the landscape architect by the owners.  "The gardens as seen today did not exist. The grounds were in a state of neglect and disrepair. We went through historical records and the house plans were found at Cornell University, but no garden plans. So essentially we had a blank slate to work with. We restored original hardscaping and established a long-term plan to create a traditional landscape, English in style."

The finished product turned out magnificently as you will see below.  A tremendous amount of green foliage, hedges, an orchard, topiaries, a rose garden and too many places to count for the residents and guests to find a quiet getaway and become lost in a book.  All the images were found in Veranda magazine taken by Neil A. Landino Jr. If you’d like to read the entire article and view even more beautiful images, simply click here.  Enjoy your stroll through their grounds.
