Christian Dior – Fall 2012 Couture

With flowers that covered the walls at Christian Dior’s 2012 Fall couture show that would begin 40 minutes late, the audience didn’t seem to mind as they waited in great anticipation for Raf Simons’ debut collection since John Galliano’s abrupt departure just 18 months ago that upon displaying seems to have received an approving nod from most.

While adhering to the cinched waists and full skirt dictum of Dior’s past collections, he also kept it seemingly simple (similar to his tenure at Jil Sander where minimalism is expected), which as a couture expectation may seem odd except when hearing his explanation, “I'm not interested in just doing couture that works in magazine pictures. I want it to be relevant."  Have a look at the clean lines, cropped trousers, choked necks and strapless necklines – brilliant in all of its simplicity.

Christian Dior – Spring 2012

Bill Gaytten’s first ready-to-wear collection since John Galliano’s abrupt departure is certainly redemption for his underwhelming Fall Couture collection.  With Christian Dior’s Spring 2012 collection I can immediately imagine wearing the boat neck blouses, coats and dresses with sheer collared shirts over cropped pants for lunch with the ladies and then the sensuous gowns for an evening with someone significant. Returning to the roots of the fashion house, Gaytten and his team put on a display of dressed up women who are adamant about being feminine and forever stylish – a la what we’ve come to admire about seemingly effortlessly chic French woman.

Spring Haute Couture 2011

Paris is all a flutter this week with the Spring 2011 Haute Couture collections strutting down the runways. John Galliano impresses with feminine mystery and beautiful red lips on his models while Karl Lagerfeld displays an ethereal, almost heavenly quality to his collection while all his models wore simple pointed toe flats and let the clothes do the work – which they did. Below are a mix and match of my favorites shown on Monday and Tuesday.
