Dwell in Possibility
“You have powers you never dreamed of. You can do things you never thought you could do. There are no limitations in what you can do except the limitations of your own mind.”
–Darwin P. Kingsley
Life has a funny way of becoming what we think it is. If we go about our days and describe, define and seek out the treasures that we believe life to possess, we will find them. They may not materialize in the way we had imagined, but they are there waiting for us to discover them. If, on the other hand, we seek out quite the opposite, we will discover that as well.
After finishing Maria Menounos book The EveryGirl’s Guide to Life, a mantra for life that she shares and brings with her to any situation she may be involved in is to believe “in possibility”. I found this to be a very simple to remember, but quite effective state of mind that can do nothing but help each of us create a more beautiful life.
“Ordinary people believe only in the possible. Extraordinary people visualize not what is possible or probable, but rather what is impossible. And by visualizing the impossible, they begin to see it as possible.” -Cherie Carter-Scott
The mind is a powerful thing as we all know, but to choose to be consciously coming to the conference table, the dinner table, a hairy situation that unexpectedly happens or anything else in life that to some with a negative attitude may seem impossible is to create your destiny and not allow it to be chosen for you.
For example, there are been many times in my life where money was tight and I wasn’t able to go out for dinner/lunch/happy hour as I had initially planned; however, by choosing to ‘dwell in possibility’ I have become a much better cook and baker than I ever thought was possible and have strengthened my budget and whittled my waistline. On a grander scale, when your dreams seem to be placed on hold at the moment or maybe even derailed, look for the opportunity to improve your skills, polish up your professional portfolio or strengthen your contacts. The moment you dwell in possibility, you are still going forward in a positive and possibility-filled state of mind, instead of the alternative which will either force you to remain stagnant or, in a worse case scenario, cause you to lose ground.
“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.“ -St. Francis of Assisi
Not everyone’s moment is right now. Often times you are in preparation mode which involves training your mind to assist you in being successful or hinder your chances. The mind, like anything else is a muscle, so exercise it and remember to always choose to dwell in what may be possible and go about the business of making it occur. If nothing else, those around you will appreciate your positive energy and willingness to work hard and such skills are ideal in any work environment. And before you know it, your moment will arrive and you will be ready to grasp it.
