Create A Simply Luxurious Laundry Room

Laundry rooms and mud rooms, while not the gathering place of a home, are frequently visited and in high demand when it comes to keeping the rest of the home clean and its residents looking put together.

In an effort to create a work space that is more welcoming and calming as we set about our required tasks of washing clothes, ironing and delicately washing other items that need special attention, here are a few ways that won’t break the bank, but will leave a luxurious touch which will improve our spirits as we go about necessary tasks.

1. Choose a Calming Color – neutrals, soft blues, greens & yellow.

2. Add a Bouquet of Freshly Cut Flowers – the arrangement doesn’t have to be perfect, in fact the more haphazard the better. Use this room as your place to experiment with floral ideas.

3. Be Prepared – for stains that is.  Keep a stain-fighting cheat sheet on the inside of a cabinet door so you are ready for any accident that comes your way. Click here for Martha Stewart’s Stain Removal Cheat Sheet, print it off and place in a plastic page protector (my mother gave it to me as a must-have, and it is such a life- saver).

4. Pre-Sorting – place baskets or lined bins that are labeled according to types of clothes which can be washed together – whites, reds, darks, sheets, etc. This will save time and eliminate accidents.

5. Creative Decor – the laundry room is not typically a place where your guests will visit, so have some fun with your decor.

6. Clear Canisters – Instead of having the TIDE box on your shelves, why not place your laundry detergent into a beautiful, oversized glass canister?  Have one for clothing pins, rags, fabric softener sheets and other items as well.

7. Think Vintage – hit the yard sales and scour the tables for antique wooden boxes, silver platters and clear pitchers.  At a minimal price, you can add creative storage and a touch of originality to your workspace.

Great ideas....if only my laundry room was large enough. My laundry "room" is an large closet with accordian style doors that open up to reveal the washer and the dryer.

I could pretend that I'm being held back by the fact my laundry 'room' is a little spot in the garage, but in all honesty, I wonder if I'll ever be sufficiently content with the rest of the house, to turn my attention to the laundry area. I really do love the pics you found, though, especially the second one.

What a brilliant post this is! I always figure that if you have to spend time in a laundry, and one of course does, it may as well be a pretty place.
