Want Financial Wealth? Continue To Learn.

{A simply luxurious life, while full of the concept less is more, luxuriates in the decadence of high quality, complementary style and an appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us in decor, fashion, nature and people themselves. One does not need to maintain a balance in the bank that one might associate with a millionaire, however, it would be a mistake for me not to address the fact, that being secure financially – just the knowledge of this fact – brings about a priceless piece of mind that contributes greatly to a well-balanced simply luxurious life.

With that said, my new series every Friday will focus on sharing a bit of financial food for thought that will help you create a sound financial life that makes it possible to make the choices that will help you create the life of your dreams.  Because after all, simply having choices is a luxury – enabling independence, however we might choose to go about our every day lives. }

In Jean Chatzky’s book The Difference, she points out statistically the difference to those who have financial security and those who do not.  And one of the largest factors is the education and continual learning one incorporates into their lifestyle no matter what one’s age. Without exception, “every level of education you complete dramatically increases your shot at greater income and . . . greater wealth.”

1. Go Beyond – Educate Yourself

In our modern technological world, it is imperative that people receive skills beyond a high school education. Did you know that 64% of wealthy individuals had completed college and/or gone beyond it; only 22% of further-in-debtors had? This is just one of the tell-tale statistics that Jean provides in her book.

2. Continue To Educate

Many people have a diploma in one subject, but a career in something else entirely. However, it is one’s ability to continue to be open to opportunities, new experiences and ways to apply their skills that allows for doors to keep opening. And how to they open these doors?  By reading constantly, reading for pleasure, asking questions and being a sponge for new knowledge. An idea that has worked for me is to subscribe to a monthly magazine that shares new ideas and opinions from valued experts and reporters (The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper’s, Time, etc).

3. Find A Mentor

Seek out experts in your field or someone you look up to at your place of work and pick their brain, ask for advice, and learn from their experiences. And never forget to thank them for their help.
