Are You Ready?
Spring 2011 New York Fashion week is quickly approaching and with it a debut of the long fought new location at Lincoln Center from Bryant Park. Beginning September 9th and running through September 16th, Manhattan will become even more aflutter with fashion writers, icons, models, designers, stylists, photographers, bloggers and admirers.
The decision to move the twice a year event that began in 1993 with 35 shows, was prompted in part by the lingering threat that it might move to Los Angeles for reasons of needing more space (it has now grown to some 70 shows per season). Not wanting to take this economic opportunity away from his city, Mayor Bloomberg worked with CFDA and IMG Fashion to ensure that it would indeed remain in New York.
By moving to Lincoln Center, further uptown, some designers are a bit disgruntled because it moves it away the proximity to the garment district, but it the addition 17,000 square feet acquired in the moved can’t be ignored and neither can the use of the largest underground parking in the city. Bryant Park was only capable of hosting three runways which will not be the case at the Lincoln Center.
In the editorial “Prelude to a Kiss” featured in the August issue of Elle magazine, Carter Smith photographs Marija Vujovic throughout the Lincoln Center in designs by some of the designers who will display their wares in September (styled by Mario Grauso).
