Laughter, Cheers and Debate
While the kitchen is becoming more and more the heart of the home, I can’t help but vote for the dining room table as being the place where relationships, of all types, can flourish. A dining room table is where bursts of laughter can emerge, heated discussions and debates can arise, and the day’s events are shared. Gathering around the dining room table cultivates an opportunity to look each other in the eyes and have genuine conversations. Add a little wine, some savory food and no one will want to leave. The dining room table is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to bring together friends for dinner parties, cocktail get-togethers and hopefully soon a few brunches.
I’ve gathered together a handful of dining rooms for this week’s Rooms of Inspiration that look as inviting for a grand time as they are fabulously designed. Enjoy perusing through them all. Out of curiosity, what would your ideal dining room include – round, square or oblong table, matching or mix and matched chairs, chandelier or simple lighting, bright colors or neutrals, table cloth or bare, bowls or flowers as centerpieces? So many details to consider. I look forward to hearing your ideas. Have a lovely Tuesday!

Hmmm... just the kind of fantasizing I love to do! My perfect dining room would have a long, rectangular wood plank table - wabi sabi all the way. Around it, plush mismatched chairs that would invite people to linger as long as possible.
There would be a fireplace as well as a giant window for both warmth and light. I love splashes of color, so I also see some vibrant pop art effects. And on the table... beaucoup de vin, cheese, bread, fruit, chocolates, remnants from dinner that we just keep picking at...
Amy - Oh this sounds like an absolutely fantastic time with comfortable decor that is inviting for everyone. May I come? =) Love the idea of a fireplace right in the dining room.
Stunning post, darling!
Especially loving those pink chairs in the first pic!

The dining room - I recall the dining table/room of my childhood. We ate mostly in silence or silence sprinkled with polite conversations. The heart of the house was the music room. There we laughed, cheered and conversed. Love all the images here especially the first. xx
I love a round table in the breakfast nook, but for the dining room, a rectangular table that can extend to accommodate a horde of family and friends. Upholstered, comfortable chairs, tablecloths sometimes, linen napkins always (ironed or not) and candles all around to flatter everyone.
Beautiful rooms! I like to mix it up in my dining room and paint it a new color every couple of years.
thanks for your kind comment on my blog, my race is done, and it was hard due to the unexpected 80 degree day!
What a great collection of dining rooms - love these pictures!
So many pretty dinning rooms!
ok to answer your question: oval table with mix matching chairs! I even have a couch in one of the sides of my table because I love the 'booth" feel I get when I go to restaurants! And you gotta have chandelier =)
In one word: Drama! Dark walls, sexy low lights, huge vintage chandy, rectangular table with Tracy Porter's Empress wingback chinoiserie chairs for captains chairs, cushy velvet club chairs, layers of fabric with different patterns and textures, humongous candelabras and Chianti bottles with dripping candles, votives in colored glasses, a roaring fire, and Gipsy Kings, Ottmar Liebert and Andrea Bocelli providing the music, and you as the guest of honor! ;) Fun post!
All so many lovely unique ideas. It's amazing what one can learn from the choice of decor. Thanks so much for sharing!
What an exceptionally beautiful post... well done! Absolutely love your choices. xoxo
