This & That: No. 65

From day to bedtime style, Barefoot Contessa in New York City and a few other odds and ends, today’s This & That is a menagerie of ideas and inspiration . . .

~Blog Feeds

1. Feedly

In case you haven’t received enough emails lately alerting you to the news that Google Reader is no longer available, I thought I’d take a moment to quickly convey the news yet again. No, but on a more helpful note, while there are many options to read blogs (I use Pulse, many readers have shared they use Bloglovin’), another option that makes it easy to upload your favorite blogs from your Google account is Feedly. With categorizations available and simple search features to find your top blogs, if you haven’t been satisfied yet with the other options, you might want to check it out.

2. Ceramic Dog

Looking to add a touch of personality and regality to your sanctuary? Take a hint from interior designer Jonathan Adler (image from his home above) and add a ceramic dog. Available in small or large sizes, ceramic dogs are becoming more and more available at varying price points. Jonathan Adler, himself, offers a handful of different options (Jonathan Adler’s 19” ceramic dog in white).

3. Pierre Balmain nightgown

A simple, beautifully tailored black nightgown from Italy. Yes, I’ll take one please, especially at the reduced price. With a sensuous sweetheart neckline, hitting just below or at the knees (depending on your height), Pierre Balmain’s chic evening wear is ideal for summer slumber.

4. Rory Beca cami romper in black crepe

After reading Alexa Brazilian’s WSJ article “The Jumpsuit: A One Piece Singular Sensation”, I’ve been keeping an eye out for one piece summer attire. While it does take a certain physique for a head to toe piece, a romper is a bit more flexible. Rory Beca’s black cami romper is simple, can easily be accessorized to create a signature look and would be quite comfortable to help survive the scorching heat during the summer. Pair with sandals, comfortable chic is certain to be established.

5. Barefoot in the City – Barefoot Contessa

Earlier this year, Ina Garten took her show to Napa Valley and just last week she took her show to the city of New York – Barefoot in the City. For the month of July, each Saturday at 8am (EST) tune in to watch new episodes of the Barefoot Contessa as she visits top chefs, restaurants and experts in the food industry and then shows us their secrets.

6. Coco Chanel: Extraordinary Women series on PBS

The Extraordinary Women series that began in February of this year focused specifically on a handful of women who’s biographies are inspiring, a reminder that sheer will and determination can take you further than most people believe is possible and by definition, extraordinary. While Coco Chanel’s episode premiered earlier in 2013, tune in this Saturday to your local PBS station at 8pm to catch the 48 minute program documenting Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s inspiring rise to fashion fame that continues to garner the fashion world’s praise.

And if you’re following the 2013/14 Fall Couture shows, Chanel will reveal their collection today at the Grand Palais – stop by style.com to view what Karl Lagerfeld has assembled.

7. Clare Vivier canvas overnighter

Clare Vivier’s simple, yet top quality clutches have been one of the coveted items on my wishlist, but she also designs travel bags and totes. While leather weekend bags are available, her canvas overnighters (available in white, green and navy) are a great tote for travel, as well as work. Simple, classic and quite functional.
