This & That: No. 54

A few floral skirts to consider, stylish new stationery to add to your office, an online vintage clothing store to peruse and my new favorite Sunday evening program.

~Blog to Visit

1. Karla’s Closet

Last week I was perusing Blog Lovin’ and their list of top blogs when I happened came across Karla’s Closet. Created by Karla Deras in 2008, it was her recent post titled A Day in the Life that impressed me. A lover of vintage clothing, she was recently profiled in Elle US’s April 2013 issue where she is appearing as a guest blogger for the current month. A designer of jewelry, she also has her own online shop where you can peruse her most recent vintage clothing discoveries.

2. Hourglass Lacquer Side Table – Urban Outfitters

While I was looking for a white pedestal bistro table for my flat, I came across these bright, striking lacquered side tables from Urban Outfitters. Available in yellow, gray or red, they remind me of the classic Knoll Saarinen tulip tables that are far beyond my budget, but I still can help but dream about. Needless to say, Urban Outfitter’s version is more colorful and much more affordable.

3. Asos Pencil Skirt in Floral Print

Pencil skirts have been a trend for a couple of years now, but this spring, the pencil is becoming a bit more playful. With graphic prints and bright screen print floral designs, top designers and discount labels are creating attractive skirts. Asos’ yellow floral print pencil skirt is a steal at less than $60.

4. Dolce & Gabbana Rose Print Stretch Cady Skirt

And if you’re not concerned with price, Dolce & Gabbana has a print pencil skirt in the game that would be beautiful for fall or spring. Pair a black silk blouse in fall/winter or a feminine blush silk-chiffon blouse for spring.

5. Friendly, Stylish Stationery from Inslee

A long-time fan of Inslee’s illustrations, she just released a group of new all-purpose cards. Sold as a potpourri or you can purchase one box of the single style you prefer, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the “Thinking of You” card. Click here to see all five available in the potpourri package.

6. Mr. Selfridge – PBS

Unbeknownst to me, my DVR has been taping any new PBS Masterpiece program since Downton Abbey, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what this new series was starring Jeremy Piven. And then I did a little investigating.

If you’ve ever been to London, you may have stopped in to Selfridge’s department store on Oxford Street. Full of luxury goods and products, it is worth simply walking through even if you have no intention of purchasing.

PBS’s eight part series Mr. Selfridge, which began on March 31st and runs through May 19th (Sunday 9pm), stars Jeremy Piven as Mr. Selfrige as he begins in 1909 his attempt to create the world’s most luxurious shopping destination. The clothing, the mini dramas of the characters (the cast includes Frances O’Connor, Aisling Loftus, Grégory Fitoussi to name a few)  and Selfridge’s grandiose plans that continue to shock the city of London so far have me enjoying Sunday evening television once again. Have a look at the trailer below:

Watch Mr. Selfridge Preview on PBS. See more from Masterpiece.
