This & That: No. 12

A recipe for your next barbeque, a website to keep you in the necessary “know”, travel ideas and a new ballet flat from Tory Burch . . .

~Gabrielle Hamilton’s “Only Cheeseburger Recipe You’ll Ever Need”

For me, a hamburger is a treat. It is a comfort food. It is a splurge. So when I choose to dine out or make one for myself and others, I prefer recipes that are full of flavor and worth the splurge. In the June issue of House Beautiful, chef Gabrielle Hamilton shares her recipe for a cheeseburger that is simple, full of flavor and melts in your mouth. As soon as I discovered this recipe, I gave it a try, and I was not disappointed. The trick is what I call the Greek goddess spread that eliminates any need for mayo and ketchup (or any other of the regular condiments). Do try. Your taste buds will thank you and so will your guests.

~The Editer

With the overwhelming amount of information that surrounds us, it is the goal of The Editer online magazine to cut through all the fluff and share what is worth knowing about in the areas of fashion, food and drink, interiors, culture, shopping, beauty and people/places. Easy on the eye, it is organized well with images that help readers navigate to areas of their particular interest. In their words, “the ultimate guide to city living.”

~Tory Burch Chelsea Ballet Flat - $178

Similar to a ballet slipper, Tory Burch’s Chelsea ballet flat comes in an array of colors and at one of her lower price points. I’ve never been disappointed with any of my Tory Burch flats, and I have a feeling, these won’t be the exception to the rule.

~Bobbi Brown Empties - $10

To avoid the rush of packing which leads to forgetting something that is needed in your beauty routine, why not always have a travel tote that is stocked and ready to go? Bobbi Brown’s empties for only $10 include “lightweight bottles and jars to be custom-filled with your skincare favorites, along with self-adhesive labels to record their contents. Includes 3ml jar, 2- 7 ml jars, 30ml bottle, 15ml bottle, plastic funnel, plastic spatula, self-adhesive labels(10)”.

~HiP Paris blog - Avoiding Bad Food in Paris: Five Things You Need to Know

One of the first travel blogs I discovered when I began blogging was the HiP Paris Blog. The four women behind all things Paris – Genevieve, Maggie, Erica and Tory – have created their blog to complement Haven in Paris which is a website focused on renting out apartments throughout the cities of Paris, Provence, Tuscany and London as vacation rentals. Full of ideas beyond the expected Tour de Eiffel and the Louvre to visit on your next trek that delights fellow Francophiles, be sure to bookmark their blog as a resource when you begin planning your trip.

~The French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook by Mireille Guiliano

This past weekend as I was out and about I came across a book bin of drastically reduced books. Normally, I’ll take a glance, but continue about my business, but on the top of the pile this time was Mireille Guiliano’s cookbook. Having each of her three books already read (and re-read many times) and on my book shelves, I did not have this resource, so I acquiesced and decided $7 for a brand new book regularly priced for $25 was quite a steal.

Let me just say, I am anxiously awaiting her next book which is set to come out at the end of this year or early 2013 focusing on the premise of French Women Don’t Get Facelifts, so while I wait, this cookbook, full of her anecdotes and of course recipes, I will be entertained. Organized by meal and occasion, not food type, I love the simplicity and at the same time healthy use of in season recipes. Certainly a book full of meals to try.
