The Simply Luxurious Life®: Lighting As Jewelry

Lighting As Jewelry

Recently I was watching an HGTV program and a comment was made that stuck with me.  Most likely it adhered like glue because it equated interior design to building a stylish wardrobe, but none-the-less, I wanted to share it with you today.

“Lighting is the jewelry of a room.”

I especially liked this statement because while a simplistic and clean aesthetic is something I think of when I define simple luxury, by keeping the walls and furniture classic and neutral, the lighting can be something to make a statement or have some fun with.

Just as the perfect necklace, cuff or earrings finish a look, so does a magnificently proportioned lamp or chandelier that captures a person’s eye and completes the room.

Whether it be a grand chandelier in the most unexpected place in the home – a laundry room perhaps? – or a unique desk lamp that provides inspiration every time creativity is being sought, the choice of lighting can reveal so much of the homeowner’s personality.

Just this past weekend while flipping through the May issue of Elle Decor, I discovered the 96 Molecules Collection of lamps from Aqua Creations.  The origami art that each of the shades are meant to resemble are unique and stunning.  But the beauty of choosing the perfect lamp is that while it can be easy to drop a pretty penny for just one new lamp, fantastic finds are just waiting to be discovered at yard sales, secondhand stores and antique shops.  With a bit of rewiring, a gorgeous new lighting accessory can be yours at the fraction of the cost. Now I’m very curious, what are some of your favorite lighting choices and where did you discover them?  I’d love to hear.

Love this desk lamp from Aqua Creations

Oh I so agree and the right lighting can be just as complimentary as pearls to the complection.

Can't argue with that...lighting can have such impact on a room. It can be the "crown jewel" and todays selection is so vast, it makes choosing a little daunting but the end result can be incredible!

I absolutely love your blog!! You have a special talent to help people see the beauty and good things in life, and I think that's what life is all about; we all have dull moments in our lives, but we should learn to see and focus on the beautiful side of life
Thank you for making my day a little bit better

I so love beautiful ornamental chandeliers! I can not wait till we get to redo our lower level of our house. My dining room has an extremely plain one which I have been itching to replace!

I really have to start reading 'Elle Decor'.

When I use to work on stage productions and short films - you rely heavily on lighting. That being said, I need to pay more attention on lightening accents at home to create ambiance instead of relying on it for utilitarian functions!
