A Tailored Shop At Home

Cedar lined closets, ample space, wooden hangers, a beautifully framed full-length mirror and unlimited ideas for pulling together the perfect outfit for any given occasion.  Ah, a girl can dream.

A closet of your very own has the ability to feel as if you’re walking into your very own clothing store.  Specially tailored to fit your gorgeous curves, shoes in the exact size you’re looking for and, most importantly, very flattering light. How you choose to display or hide your treasures is completely up to you because, after all, this is your store and you have stocked it.

Out of curiosity, what are some of the essentials regarding decor that you include in your closet design?  I’d love to hear.

I do have a walk in closet, it needs some work. I am thinking wall paper, a chandelier and a beautiful floor mirror on the empty wall! xo

Closets are my WEAKNESS!! I love a good closet. Growing up I had a wee closet with barely enough room to hang my dresses, but I've gotten lucky with pretty spacious closets since then.

If you ever have say, a week of free time, you should check out this thread on the Purse Forum

She has a closet TO DIE FOR. The rest of her house is a little over the top for my tastes but impressive nonetheless.

I have room in my closet for a bench/large chest. It is perfect for storing my purses and also serves as a seat to put my shoes on.

These are just delicious!! The dressing room with the lit glass closet doors with that lovely bathtub in the dressing room ... ohhh. As with many older homes, the closet space in the master bedroom is tiny. I recently took a small bedroom across the hall from the master & decided to create a dressing room in it. It was the original nursery in this 1929 home. I painted a mural on the ceiling of taupes & soft blues, the walls are taupe. The floors are hardwood. That's as far as I've gotten! I need to figure how to set it up -- what I need to make it feel like a boutique. Your post is great inspiration! ;)

I would love room for a vanity table - so I could do my make up. I also prefer closet doors so you odn't actually see all the clothes...

Love these closets! I think a beautiful light fixture (chandelier) and an ottoman are essentials for any walk in closet/wardrobe.

Hi Shannon,
Just wondering if you have any advice - I'd like to convert my 2nd bedroom into a walk in closet but I'm worried about moths getting in to all of my beautiful wool and cashmere pieces. Will I have to put doors on everything or is there a way to keep them at bay in open spaces like this?
Cheers x

Lady Stardust,

What a wonderful space to convert into a closet. If you have access to cedar planks, you can place them on the shelves or nail them discreetly inside your closets. You can also use moth balls to prevent moths. Aside from these options, clean your closets regularly, and you should be well on your way to enjoying a fabulous walk-in closet. :)
