2013 Met Gala Best Dressed

The biggest fashion red carpet of the year and the opening of the new fashion exhibition, this year’s Met Gala was centered around the theme Punk: Chaos to Couture. With such a tricky theme to navigate (spikes or no spikes, cape or . . . cape, that would be a no), only a select few demonstrated their talented fashion sense and blended both concepts beautifully. So I couldn’t help coming up with a few of my own awards for the best dressed.

OVERALL BEST DRESSED TO THE THEME OF THE EVENING:

~Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon dress, Philip Treacy punk couture hat and Louboutin heels. Only SJP can pull off a couture mohawk. Absolute, stunning confidence and the ultimate fashion muse~

~custom thigh-high tartan boots from Christian Louboutin~

~SJP striking a pose for Vogue photographers with Hamish Bowles~

BEST SIGNATURE PUNK COUTURE STYLE:

~Anne Hathaway debuts her new hair color in a Valentino gown~

BEST MODERN PUNK COUTURE FEMME FATALE:

~Doutzen Kroes in Theyskens' Theory~

BEST EMBODIMENT OF THE SEXY PUNK THEME:

While the exhibit is open for the public to view from beginning May 9 running through August 14, the fashions worn on the red carpet are available for purchase this year through Moda Operandi - click here to find out more.

Ohh Gosh, I love SJP but why did she show her underwear?

I also loved the outfit of Emma Watson, but she was not very punk-ish.

When I heard the theme I was a little worried...there are so many ways that could go wrong or just plain over the top, but the Anne's dress was kind of amazing with the hair.

I assume SJP did not intend to show her underwear. What I think would have been super cool, if she had panties that matched the theme, then it would not be such a faux pas but a calculated move. Besides that her outfit was fantastic! Also loved Diane von Furstenberg! Somehow I don't see how Anne's outfit although beautiful was Punk but perhaps all that is in the eye of beholder.

I agree with all your choices, except Giselle. Yes, her body is hot, but that dress is too much (or too little). We know you are a VS Angel, but punk was not about showing skin.

I DO think SJP meant to show her underwear--and I don't think it was a big deal.

I liked the idea of the punk theme, but almost no one did anything remotely punk, even with the help of all those stylists. I feel like my friends could have pulled together something much more interesting!
