Royal Inspiration

Nancy Shevell and Sir Paul McCartney were married back on October 9th earlier this month at the Old Marylebone Town Hall in London. Keeping the nuptials very quiet and exclusive to close family (30 members), upon leaving the church they were congratulated by a bevy of fans as well as the small wedding party.

Unsurprisingly, Shevell wore a Stella McCartney design, however, I found it quite interesting to learn from where the inspiration came for the above-the-knee, long sleeve dress. Wallis Simpson. Yes, the American who stole the heart of the would-be King of England – Duke of Windsor.  Married in 1937, Simpson wore a floor length gown with a similar buttoned up top made by Parisian couturier Mainbocher.

With the modern alterations, Shevell glowed and looked more than the beautiful blushing bride.  Paul, who he was married to Linda (Eastman) McCartney for 29 years before her death from breast cancer in 1998, chose a much simpler ceremony compared to his second wedding to Heather Mills. Shevell, a breast cancer survivor, began dating McCartney in November 2007 and announced their engagement on May 6, 2011.

Being a Brit I'm a HUGE McCartney fan and love his new wife (certainly beats the "bunny boiler" previously!). Didn't realise her dress was inspired by Wallis Simpson's wedding dress; how interesting.

I really liked the dress, although I would have done different shoes. I think she looked really pretty. I think this one will be a happy marriage!

I think he deserves some happiness, this go-round! But, is that all his hair! Ha! They look wonderful!

Somehow she reminds me of Kim Kardashian. I mean, this is how I imagine Kim in a couple of years...
