Style Inspiration

Sarah Jessica Parker recently shared in her interview for the upcoming August 2011 Vogue US issue her thoughts on living in New York, “The beautiful thing about New York is, you have to expose yourself to other people the minute you step outside the door. There is no choice. And I love that.”

When it comes to deciding on what we choose to wear each day before we present ourselves to the world, we all have the opportunity to choose something that establishes a confidence, exudes are natural beauty and allows us to have fun with fashion.  Whether we live in New York, the country or a small town, choosing to dress well should be the choice we all make as a way of respecting ourselves. Here are a few ideas on how to pull together an outfit or a hairstyle that conveys such a message.

Your look is a present you give to the world, really, and that's why you should take the time to care. My mom used to say: Where's your pride? when I'd try to leave the house looking less than turned-out. Today's my birthday, and I'm wearing a flirty print vintage skirt, a striped top and sandals with pride. Thanks, Mom! And thanks, Shannon, for the wonderful style inspiration!
Love, Kay

I love the classic, effortless style in these photos. It is definitely something I attempt to channel on a daily basis, but it's not always easy living in such a minute by minute fashion obsessed LA. I try to go for class looks but could add a few more pieces. Any wallet friendly suggestions for a quick update?

Wallet friendly classics - a basic white collared shirt - perfect for pairing with shorts, add fantastic jewelry and oversized shades with sky-high heels or fabulous sandals and you are set.

Or purchase a pair of espadrilles - they will be wearable each summer, but they are fun, not too expensive and always in style for the warmer months.

I hope this helps a bit.

Kay - Happy birthday. May this year be full of much deserved blessings and amazingly wonderful moments. :) Love your mom's advice by the way. I couldn't agree more. xoxo

The last skirt is stunning. If I could find some fabric like it, I'd have one made.
