The Simply Luxurious Life®: Beauty Money Saving Ideas

Beauty Money Saving Ideas

Part of living a simply luxurious life is realizing that there are many ways you can continue to look your best without forking out excess amounts of money if it’s not exactly in your budget.  Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing I enjoy more than a trip to the spa to receive a pedicure, facial or massage, but sometime the funds aren’t available.

With that said, I’d like to begin a mini-series of ideas on how to pamper yourself at home as a way to keep a few more dollars in your pocket and still result in a radiant you.

One of the simplest ways to keep your skin feeling silky smooth and display the glow that seems to come after receiving a full body massage is something I do daily (when it comes to moisturizing) and weekly (when it comes to exfoliating).

So instead of paying an arm and a leg for an expensive body scrub at the spa, try these two following techniques daily and weekly and you will have soft, well-hydrated and glowing skin.

Moisturizing (daily):

After showering or bathing apply a rich body moisturizer all over your body.  One of my favorites is one that appeared on Oprah’s Favorite Things many, many years ago – Origin’s A Perfect World moisturizer. So luxurious in the feel and will leave your skin soft and silky.

Exfoliating (weekly):

There are many expensive exfoliating scrubs available, but I’ve never spent more than seven bucks at the drugstore for St. Ives Apricot Scrub.  However, an even better option that I swear by and is not only a great exfoliant, but also leaves the skin silky smooth is a simple combination from out of your kitchen – equal parts olive oil and sugar – that’s it!

Great post!

If you want yet another incredibly cheap option for exfoliation, look no further than your coffee maker! I am a spa therapist and I use the leftover coffee grounds to do my weekly exfoliation. The grounds are much softer than salt/sugar crystals or apricot grounds, and are a good option for dry, extremely sensitive skin types.

Another good tip is to do home masques. This supports cell regeneration and increased circulation to the surface of the skin, which is exactly what that "post-spa" glow is! On top of all that, they are incredibly easy! Just buy a high-quality clay masque and follow the instructions.(I use Lush's "Mask of Magnaminty" religiously.)

Hope this little insider-scoop interesting. :)

Love your site! I just discovered it today. Will definitely keep up with your content!

Rachel Wally - Thank you very much for your insider's ideas and advice. I would have never thought of using coffee grounds, but that makes since that they would be a gentler. I am thrilled to have your input, so glad you've stopped by. :)

Good gracious - coffee grounds, sugar, olive oil! All so easy and simple. But excuse my ignorance here girls, but are you talking about face or body exfoliation? As in, can you actually scrub your face with coffee grounds and not end up all blotchy and red?

Blue Fruit - Thank you for asking for clarification. While this particular post is what I use on the body, not the face, I do use St. Ives Apricot scrub on my face as well. And depending upon your skin type, I'm sure you could probably use the others as well.

This is a great post. I already do something similar to the DIY scrub you posted, only i use grapeseed oil instead of live oil

I've been using olive oil and sugar on my face and body since ever! And I still can't find a better scrub on market no matter what the cost. I also add a few drops of lavender essential oil in the mix, it does wonders!!!

Another great post! I've yet to try the sugar/oil mixture or the coffee grinds, but this weekend may finally be the time!

I love St Ives facial scrub too. It is inexpensive and every bit as good its expensive counterparts.

Thank you for another lovely series.
