The Simply Luxurious Life®: A Window Of Opportunity

A Window Of Opportunity

One of the most calming ways to quiet the mind and bring contentment to the  soul is to allow the beauty of natural light to flood your home. One aspect in home design that I tend to put close the top, if not at the top, of my priority list is windows.  How much light does a house let in? I adore nothing more on a easy Saturday morning than to wake up with the sun beginning to slowly creep above the horizon, to have tea in the kitchen with the sun as my cheery-eyed guest, or to apply my make-up with only the natural lighting that is provided in a perfectly positioned bathroom.

And think of it this way, it cuts down on the amount of wall space you have to plan to decorate.  Truly though, whether it be through a floor to ceiling string of windows, paned French doors in a living room, dining room or bedroom, or French windows above a banquette, the magnificent views, the ability to see beyond your four walls is something to appreciate. Enjoy browsing through the images below which demonstrate the handful of instances in which a myriad of windows or French doors can add a magnificent design element to any room.

Out of curiosity, in what room of a house do you most enjoy having windows? I’d love to hear.

Enjoy the day, and be sure to check your inboxes tomorrow morning for your September newsletter if you’ve subscribed. It will be full of ideas to simplify and at the same time bring luxury to your every day routines as we all get back into the swing of things with the change of seasons.  And I’m thrilled to say that Erin Hiemstra of Apartment #34 and Erin Coates of The Healthy Apron will be featured with some fantastic contributions.

I love to open the drapery in my bedroom in the morning. The sun comes in perfectly across our bed & it just says, "Good Morning"! Makes me so happy. Hope you are well.

I love natural light and bare windows. I would love to have a room -- especially a family room - where I didn't need window coverings. However the room would need to be positioned correctly so as not to burn up from the sun. Perhaps someday :) Lovely pictures.

I am in complete agreement. Since we live in an old beach house it tends to lack those big windows that houses today have. Mine would be my front porch (I took out the screens from the windows) so I could enjoy the view of my walk street. I love having my morning coffee there and reading the New York Times. My second favorite is our french doors on our balcony of our bedroom. I open the curtains, open the doors and step out on the balcony and look out to the ocean and I'm reminded how lucky I am to live in such a great area.

I really love the sky lights we have in the upstairs loft, in the day time they cast the perfect lighting for all the needlework that goes on up there.

P.S. I love the pictures you've posted,.

These are gorgeous. That first kitchen is absolutely stunning and inspires me to head straight to my own kitchen and start cooking!

These images are really beautiful - love all the window styles too. I think lots of natural light balanced all through out a home is ideal. (For privacy, window treatments.) But kitchens and eating areas are always nice with lots of big windows!

I am so envious of all those light filled rooms. The home we rent right now doesn't have much light but now I know I must have light and bright spaces when we buy a place. I love all common areas (living, dining, kitchen, etc.) to have tons of light.....it makes me feel happy!
