Eric Bompard – Cashmere Heaven

After reading Ines de la Fressange new book Parisian Chic which outlines just exactly how to attain what seems unattainable – the cool joie de vivre of our lovely French counterparts – I have walked away with many ideas that I want to incorporate into my wardrobe, life and next visit to Paris.

And while I can’t post my review until Monday, April 4th, I thought I’d at least share with you the style essential I am adding to my wardrobe and the company that Ines highly recommends to purchase it from – Eric Bompard. Ines states in her book “Eric Bompard is often cited as the official supplier of virtually every Parisian [for navy cashmere sweaters].”

With that said, I quickly got online and visited his site and was immediately impressed. Not only do they have somewhat reasonable prices, but they also have oodles of choices in style and color.

(Ines de la Fressange – left and her daughteer Nine – right, in a classic Parisian look – navy cashmere sweater, white jeans and quiet self-confidence.)

1. 100% cashmere ultra fine V-neck

2. 70& cashmere 30% silk batwing V-neck

3. 100% cashmere – Classic V-neck

4. 100% cashmere Poncho

5. 70% cashmere 30% silk fitted V-neck

6. 70% cashmere 30% silk Fitted V-neck

And these are just a few.  There are crewnecks, mens, childrens, accessories and coats. Click here to visit the website.

I've purchased a few Eric Bompard scarves and a couple of sweaters in the last two years, and LOVE the quality and softness of their cashmere. A word of caution - check size measurements carefully, as their sizing tends to be based on a very slender French standard. A navy v-neck is the next thing on my Bompard wish list.

Deja Pseu - thank you for sharing this information and your experience with these products. I can remember the first time I went shopping in Paris and their sizes are not what we Americans are used to. Always go advice to check the sizing chart. :)

These are so beautiful. I love classic pieces like this and it looks like a great investment. I haven't heard of this brand, but I definitely want to get one of these sweaters now!

I, too, adore Bompard's exquisite cashmere jumpers and cardigans. I find them so luxurious.
Am looking forward to your review of the book.

Anybody have a guess which style is closer to Nine's sweater? I like that fit better than Ines'.

Hi, I have purchased the sweater from Eric-Bompard.fr website.
Received it and liked the soft feel of it, but the shape was horrible, just the worst I've ever seen!!! Not like it was on the photo At ALL!!! So, I thought, I'll return it. Returned the sweater right away, in exactly the same condition it arrived, I followed all the requirements that they are requesting to follow....made sure it is a correct address, put all his tel # and even a fax # in the shipping form, including his email and even notified them to expect the package. On top of it I also spent over $40 on shipping charged to return it, because there should be a tracking # for a proof. Wright?! So, overprotected myself in every direction. Guess what? Eric Bompard company REFUSED to accept the return package!!!!!!! Nobody accepted the delivery!!! Please know, the package was NOT EVEN OPENED by them!!! They just did not Take it back!!!! This is what is written in the tracking information! PLEASE KNOW THIS, Before you'll waste your money!!!

I am so sorry this happened. While I know they suggest to all American shoppers to buy a size larger because French styles tend to be a bit small, there is no excuse for this type of customer service. I'm sorry you had this experience, and I do appreciate you sharing.

I also like the fit on nine, do you know which v neck style she's got? Is it the classic v neck or extra fine v neck?

Am happy to look into this. Which #9 are you referring to? I only see 6 in the image.

Nine is wearing the classic V-neck. I eventually purchased this exact one - color and all - and I am in love with it. Highly recommend.

Can you tell us what size you ended up purchasing in the V Neck sweater compared to your usual sizing? Thanks

I always wear a size small, but in this brand, I looked at their online sizing chart closely. I measured myself and purchased a medium. It fits perfectly and is the most wonderful cashmere I own!

I was sad to read of the experience Anonymous had with Eric Bompard. I can only say that I've bought literally ALL my sweaters from his boutiques, including the stunning new one on the Champs Elysées, here in Paris since 1990, and, for me, his quality and workmanship are second to none, especially at his very fair prices. I have seen cheaper cashmere, but it usually has ugly seaming, whereas Bompard sweaters are knitted, decreased and darned to produce a flawless and oh-so-comfortable finish, a truly luxurious drape, and a shape which holds up through numerous hand-washes. Indeed, on a cost-per-wear basis, these beauties are incredibly cheap: I've had some of mine for over ten years and they have never pilled. I don't have a broad experience of US sizing, but I have always found Bompard sweaters to be rather generously cut. I'm not sylph-like (a French size 38) and usually buy a small size to wear over silk undies. The combination of cashmere and pure silk provides great insulation on the coldest of days, and wearing those lovely fabrics next to my skin is my idea of sensual Heaven!!
